What a great weekend this was. There truly is nothing like the magic of Christmas...I am so glad I have kids to remind me of that.
One of the best moments of the whole weekend was on Christmas morning. Julia came downstairs, saw all of her presents under the tree and exclaimed (with a combination of shock and joy), "Mama, I was a good girl!" She is so funny. She really takes everything about the traditions and stories of Christmas quite seriously. She asked me numerous times about people getting coal in their stocking and was legitimately concerned that the Grinch would try to steal our Christmas.
We spent a good part of day today opening and assembling toys and organizing the house. Opening the toys was like trying to break in to Fort Knox. I don't remember toys being so hard to get in to when I was a kid, but, then again, I wasn't the one opening them. I am probably just forgetting.
I am looking forward to the week off with the kids. Hopefully, it will be a relaxing and enjoyable week.

Weekend
I have decided not to go to the crop tonight. I still have a million things to do to be ready for dress rehearsal and the recital this weekend. I have to be up and out of the house by 7:10 with Julia tomorrow. My mother is on hair and makeup duty so we need to be in Carver by 7:20, to leave by 7:50, and get to dress rehearsal by 8:30. This ought to be fun with Julia, who is used to sleeping in on weekends until at least 8. She tires very easily, so most week day mornings it is really hard to get her out of bed by 6:45 to get ready for school. She is in bed by 7 every night, and usually asleep by 7:30. I certainly can't put her to bed before 7...most nights we are just finishing dinner up at 6:30. So...I let her make up the difference on the weekend. When Julia is done performing, I will bring her back home, help my mother get Emily and Katherine ready, and head back for 12:30. I will probably have a couple of hours in between. The recital on Sunday will be a little less hectic as it doesn't start until 3. Julia will be doing ballet in the Cinderella portion of the show and Emily and Katherine? Will be in the second half dancing in the Back to the 80's portion of the show. Back to the 80's? I am like, totally, thinking this show will be wicked awesome! After the recital, we will be heading with the whole gang (my immediate family, my parents, my sisters and nephew) to dinner. After that, the whirlwind weekend will be over.
So yeah, it seems to make sense to stay in to night, get things done and try and get to bed at a reasonable hour.

Weekend In Review
It was a busy one for sure! Thursday we spent Thanksgiving in Haverhill at Suzanne and Jack's house. It was fun and as usual, there was way too much food! I made my usual...potatoes and fudge. We got home around 9. The kids went right to bed, which I should have done too, seeing as I was meeting Kelly to shop at the crack o' dawn Friday. I didn't get to bed until after 11 and spent the 4 1/2 hours until the alarm went off tossing and turning. I still managed to drag my but out of bed and get to Kelly's on time, coffee in hand. We had a lot of success shopping, but more fun than that was the people watching. I was beyond shocked at the craziness of it all, and while I had been shopping on Black Friday before, I had never gotten to the stores that early. It was interesting, annoying and funny at the same time. Ryun handled the kids for the afternoon after I got back, and I managed to take a 4 hour nap. I still went to bed early (for me anyway) and woke up Saturday feeling mostly like myself, with an exception of a head cold that I still have.
Saturday was the Annual Middleboro Christmas Parade which both Emily and Katherine were in. It was a great parade and they really had fun. Julia enjoyed watching from the sidelines but did say it was "too loud" a couple of times. She made out well on the candy front, so much so that I gave a small handful away to Jay who brought the kids and watched the parade with us.
On Sunday, we decorated the house. Julia was absolutely mystified by the tree. She loved the whole process from the set up to the hanging of lights to the ornaments. It was fun to watch her. It really made me look forward to Christmas with her this year.

Yesterday
It's nice to be up and at em first thing in the morning for a change. I actually managed to get close to nine hours of straight sleep which is practically unheard of around these parts (well, except for Ryun who could sleep through a bomb detonating right on his nightstand). My father took the kids over night last night, after taking us all out to dinner at the Outback. By all of us, I mean my family, my sisters, and my nephew Jack, whose birthday we were at yesterday afternoon. It was at Chunky's which is a table service movie theater, where you actually sit in limousine bucket seats that recline and are on wheels. The tables seat about eight and you order from a menu of pub style foods. It was very cool. I was pleasantly surprised with how well Julia did. This kind of situation (you know with people, noise, darkness etc) generally isn't something she handles well. For a few minutes in the beginning she kept saying it was too dark and too scary but she settle in with Ryun and was basically fine for the rest of the time. She wouldn't sit with the rest of the kids who were congregated in the middle of all of us, but, baby steps, you know?
Anyway, we are heading over to have dinner with my father and the kids later. Ryun is going to help my father with putting new kitchen light fixtures in which are recessed and have to be done by going through the attic, to which my father said, "I am too old to crawl around there now (hence Ryun's involvement)." We are going over earlier to do that, and then just hang around until dinner time.
Anyway, we are heading over to have dinner with my father and the kids later. Slacker
I haven't updated here in a week! WOW! I doubt it's a record for me, given vacations and whatnot but it certainly is longer than I like to go regardless.
Life has just been busy. Not unusually so, but sometimes, when there is down time, I am just too tired or have other things in mind that I want to do, like catch on recorded tv or read. It seems like I have been doing both in marathon sessions, rather than just a bit at a time.
This weekend, in particular has been and will continue to be busy. Yesterday we had trick or treating with the kids. We went to the old neighborhood as usual, and met up with the Ryan family. Ryun's sister and her family walked with us for a while as well, which was nice. Speaking of being busy, we don't seem them as often as we should/want to for that reason alone, so when we do, it's a good thing. Tonight is the big Halloween party we have every year. This year marks 10 years since the first one, so I plan on making it memorable...which of course they all are. It seems like we will have a good turnout which is nice. Tomorrow we are heading to my parents house for my nephew Jack's third birthday. How the heck he managed to go from being born to three so fast I have no idea...kids have a funny way of speeding up time.
Anyway, I am hoping to keep up here a little better than I have been. We'll see what happens.

Halloween Town Boston
We took the kids to Halloween Town Boston yesterday. It was fun, even if it was a little overwhelming for Julia. She had fun, but in her own way, which was, you know different from how the other kids enjoyed it. The kids got all kinds of goodies, candy included. Anyway, I took pictures!
She wanted something scary. This worked. I left the red eye in for effect, which also worked.
Emily wanted candy corn eyes.
That's Dan Zanes of Playhouse Disney fame. Katherine and Julia particularly enjoyed listening to him sing and dance.
As you can tell, Julia was totally thrilled with the whole event. As for Ryun, this picture was the result of my calling his name and just snapping the picture.
The kids got to draw on a zip car. Very cool! Here is Emily's art work.
Julia wanted nothing to do with face painting when the girls got theirs done earlier in the day, free. In typical Julia style she decided as we were getting ready to leave that she did want her face painted after all. The original place was all the way at the other end of the building, and the last time we had been by, the line was miles long. So, I gave in and paid $10 which seemed like a bit much. Honestly though, at that point I may have given them my life savings for her to Julia to get her face painted. When she wants to participate in something, you just can't let the opportunity pass her by. She sat perfectly still the whole time and as you can see, the tiger face she picked out came out great! Turns out the face painter was from Art on The Spot, a local art studio here in Middleboro, just down the street a ways from us.
We took the kids to diner at Friendly's on the way home, which, as is usually the case at Friendly's, was a huge hit.

Weekend In The Mountains
There can't be anything more difficult than getting back to "real life" after a vacation. Not that there is anything wrong with "real life" but "real life?"
It's not this.
I wonder if people who live in areas like this for any length of time still appreciate the beauty that surrounds them every day. Myself, I find it hard to believe that I could ever, ever get sick of a view like this.
The sun set over the mountains, changing their color, making them look like some sort of a water color painting.
I got up at 5:30 in the morning with the intent of capturing the sun rising over the mountains. I had no idea how truly beautiful it would be.
This was taken just before darkness descended, giving the mountains and the water a purplish tint, which I am not sure was captured well in this picture.
I took 120 pictures in all, none of which could possibly capture the peace and beauty of the mountains. As I said to Ryun though, even if the Lodge was located in the middle of a barren wasteland, the service and kindness of the staff still would have made the trip worthwhile. It was exemplary, and really like nothing I have ever seen or experienced before. I let them know as much when I filled out the email survey we got upon our arrival home, asking about our stay.

Weekend In Review
Even though it is not officially over.
On Friday, I took all three girls in to Boston for Emily's 6 month checkup with the neurologist. Driving in was as frightening as usual, but, I did it again and I am proud. Emily put it in to words quite nicely when she said, "Mom, Boston is really cool but it's also very scary."
Anyway, her appointment? Was the BEST EVER. Emily has been seizure free now for 3 1/2 years and also had a normal EEG back in 06, so, the doctor thinks that it is time to think about having her go off of her medication. She has to have an ambulatory EEG which we have scheduled for the end of June. If that comes back clear, and, of course, if she remains seizure free between now and then, we will gradually decrease the Lamictal until it is no more. Just how fantastic is that? Of course, we are trying not to get too excited yet, because we won't really know until the above requirements are met, but even the possibility is exciting. Also? Even though I have never believed that the medicine was the only reason she hasn't had seizures (it's not often that seizures are that well-controlled with medicine for such a long time), it's a little nerve-wracking as well. Obviously, going off of her medicine could mean that she will have a seizure, and of course that will be more likely than if she was still on the medicine. Anyway, all in all, as far as trips to the neurologist go? It was great.
We continued north to visit my sister at her office and grab a key to her house. We spent the night there, ordering pizza, watching movies and finally crashing around 11:30ish. The next day, after much mulling over what we were going to do, we decided to at least go look at the castle (it was kind of crappy weather, although when we were there it wasn't raining).
This would be a really fun place to visit in nicer weather as there was a huge open field to run in, a playground, hiking trails, and bike trails. When we were done here, we took the kids to Fudruckers for lunch, and then to Snipits, where Jack and Emily got haircuts. After dropping my sisters back off to get their cars, the girls and I drove home. We got back here around 4 or so. I made chicken quesadillas for dinner and retired to the office for the evening, watch the Sox kick butt, and went to bed around 11.
Ryun is off bowling with Emily and Katherine right now. Chili is on the menu for tonight's dinner ( cold yucky day seems like the perfect day for chili).

Weekend
We had quite a busy weekend. Saturday Ryun was working for the morning and helping a friend move for the afternoon. Emily had a film shoot for the Burtwood School and a Girl Scout Harry Potter event. While she was there, Julia, Katherine and I went to visit my sister and nephew in Carver. Ryun picked Emily up from Scouts, and then when he got home, I went out for the night with my sisters and a couple of friends. We came back to my parents, went in the hot tub for a while and I didn't get home until after 1! The next morning, Emily went back to continue the film shoot for a few hours, and the rest of us went to my parents for breakfast. We decided to bring the kids to the new play space in Carver called Boomerangs, which we did, after picking Emily up and dropping Ryun off at home. It was a really fun place for the kids and of course, I took pictures!

Weekend
We had a busy one. On Saturday Ryun and I had a wedding to go to. Not surprisingly, it was a great time (because getting together with old friends from the neighborhood always means a great time). Yesterday we took the kids to the mall where they were having a kids expo. We saw a clown show, got some free toys and trinkets and Emily and Katherine got their hair done fancy by a local salon that was there. After that we went over to my parents for a family dinner in honor of my father's 58th birthday, which is today (Happy Birthday, Dad!). For whatever reason the weekend wiped me out so I came home and after getting the kids settled in bed, went to bed myself. I had plans to have a nice heartwarming night of television watching Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition and Oprah's new show called Oprah's Big Give. Instead I watched it this morning over breakfast. I LOVE Sunday night tv already with just Extreme and after watching The Big Give, I can tell I am going to love it even more. Nothing like getting in a good cry every once in a while!

Weekend
It has been such a fun weekend that I am sad to see it ending, more so than I am the usual weekend. We have had Wayne and his kids here since Thursday, and it has been a lot of fun for my kids (his too I think). Julia has really come out of her shell, and it was quite obvious this weekend when she interacted with and had a great time showing off for the kids. She was also funny, having to copy everything Billy did (right down to putting on shorts because he had them on). They all ended up bowling yesterday (Ryun took Emily and Katherine while I stayed behind with Julia and cooked dinner.) I made chili, which we had with hotdogs (aka chili dogs) , taco salad (for my first time and it came out great by all accounts), as well as sandwiches (to attempt to use up the cold cuts I bought). I also bought ice cream sundae stuff for dessert. The kids went out in the snow after dark which they thought was awesome.
We have stayed up late every night (well midnight isn't late for me but it is for the kids). We've had Wii tournaments, watched movies and just hung around. The living room was covered in kids every night, while Wayne took Emily's bed upstairs. Julia didn't stay up quite as late (it was more like 8:30, which is late for her considering she is usually in bed by 7:30). She slept in her room, even despite her asking numerous times to sleep in the livingroom. There was no way that she would have been able to sleep among the noise and whatever else was going on so I didn't budge on that.
They will all be back later to pack it up and head home (except for Wayne who I think will be back to spend one more night).
Anyway, like I said, I am sad to see the weekend go, for the reasons mentioned, but also because tomorrow? It's back to reality. Vacation ends, school begins again, and life gets back to normal. It's not all bad of course, but I am going to miss the relaxed nature of the week off.

On The Agenda For The Long(ish) Weekend
Last night: family game night. Disney DVD Scene It, in which the team of Ryun and Emily kicked Katherine's and my butt. What was I thinking suggesting that those two be on the same team? You'd think I'd know better by now. Sheesh.
Tonight: Patriots fans rule this roost. Guess what we'll be doing?
Tomorrow: Undecorating. We usually do this right after the new year, but, quite inconveniently, the holiday falls in the middle of the week. Next week is too late and this weekend seems too early, but, we had to pick one.
Monday: Ryun will be working during the day. The kids and I will be enjoying another day of school vacation. This is most definitely the best vacation as far as school vacations go...new toys for Christmas have yet to loose their appeal, making entertaining the kids one heck of a lot easier.

Weekend
This weekend was the union Christmas Party. It was a lot of fun and I think the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There were two moonwalks, an area in which they could decorate gingerbread cookies, a long row of conference tables set up along one wall with crayons and paper for the kids to color, and of course the visit from Santa. Santa brought Emily the latest Harry Potter book, Katherine a Littlest Pet Shop set, and Julia a wooden puzzle (yes, we "sneak" the gifts in all labeled and ready to go so Santa can deliver them). We sang Christmas carols with the kids all sitting up front on the stage, and they were even treated to a reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by one of the party planning committee members. Santa was a little late in his arrival and the guy on the microphone said, "Maybe Santa's stuck in the elevator...can someone go check that out?" It was one of those corny jokes that turned out to be extremely funny, given we were in a room full of Elevator Mechanics.
On Saturday night, Julia and I went up to my sister Heather's house for the night and the next day we left to head up north to Suzanne's to watch the Pat's kick butt. Beforehand though, we went to the mall, and took Julia to the "Rainforest Cafe" for lunch which she loved. It has to be one of the most fun restaurants to take kids with all of the moving animals, the lighting and the thunderstorms to boot.
Yesterday Verizon came out to install the tv and internet (which reminds me I still need to do the Comcast post). So far, I am quite impressed.
Anyway, that again, explains my weekend absence. Darn weekends have a nerve being busy.

Yesterday Verizon came out to install the tv and internet (which reminds me I still need to do the Comcast post). So far, I am quite impressed.
Anyway, that again, explains my weekend absence. Darn weekends have a nerve being busy.

Weekend Absence Explained
I hate when I have actual days between posts. Life just gets in the way sometimes.
Friday I was busy decorating the house. Friday night we decorated the tree as a family, while watching The Polar Express. We also completed the night with hot chocolate and egg nog (not together in the same cup). Julia was rightfully amazed by the tree and the lights and said the cutest thing while the tree was in the assembly stages; "We're making a tree right over there!" She has been unbelievably awesome about not touching the ornaments, or the various decorations that I daringly decided to set on the coffee and end tables. I have never been able to put things out like that. Emily and Katherine would never have allowed it...they just weren't the "do not touch" type of kids. I love, love, love having an easy toddler.
Saturday was the craft fair I had mentioned previously. It was fun, but other than that, not worth the time or effort...at least for me sales wise. I didn't sell a single thing, but, on the flip side, I handed out a few catalogs and business cards. Exposure is a good thing and maybe something will come of it. I am starting to get really frustrated with the whole thing to be honest, but, I am not ready to call it quits yet.
Katherine had a Girl Scout event yesterday so I did a little Christmas shopping after I dropped her off. I still have more to do, but progress is progress, right?
Last night the girls and I watched the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular which I recorded Saturday night. I have seen it "live" at Radio City back when Emily was just a wee little thing, and my parents took Emily and Katherine to Boston to see it last year. We enjoyed watching it last night, and Julia seemed to LOVE the dancing, costumes and music.
Anyway, that explains my absence over the weekend. I have plans to make out Christmas cards today, as well as get the house ready for "the boys" who will be making their way over tonight for poker. The house is fairly organized and clean (because I also did that on Friday while decorating) so it shouldn't be that hard to do.

Weekend
Yesterday was Jack's birthday party at my parents house. It was fun and Julia and Jack are so cute together, that words can't even begin to describe. Jack basically wanted nothing to do with anyone else, except Julia. He copies everything she does, right down to wanting to take his shoes off just because she did.
After the party, we went to Edaville. It pays to know people that live in Carver. Why? This weekend is what Edaville calls "Carver Days" and Carver residents pay no admission to the park. Up to four people can go in per license/ID so Mom and Dad split my family and my sister between them, and no one paid anything. It was a little earlier in the season than I usually like to go but it was free so who could pass that up? All in all it was a nice night (with just the usual amount of drama one could expect when you take kids to an amusement park). Julia was adorable when we pulled in to the parking lot, saw the Christmas lights and she said, before anyone else had said anything, "Look at all the Christmases!" When we were leaving I thanked my parents for living in Carver. Heh.
Today I have a lia sophia show in Braintree. I may stop at my sister Heather's apartment on the way home. Tomorrow, Emily goes to the eye doctor and Ryun hosts Monday night poker.

A More Detailed Review
A weekend away scrapbooking sounded like heaven but I had never been to a crop of that magnitude, so I really had no idea. Turns out, my thoughts of heaven were right on.
The weather was nightmarish on Saturday, causing multiple power outages in our rooms, but not managing to fully go out in the ball room until after 10, just in time for the chocolate buffet, which we ended up eating by candlelight. The generator had kept the power running in the function rooms for the bulk of the storm and didn't manage to go out until it was winding down, which was odd. After eating way too much chocolate, we were too wired to go to bed and unable to scrap so we ran next door to "Bud's Country Pub" and had a nightcap. We weren't really sure what to think of a pub that's name started out with "Bud's Country" but it turned out to be a nice little place, and we got to watch the end of the BC game (it was strange that they had power right next door but, we weren't complaining).
As for the actual scrapping, I managed to get A LOT done, including an entire book for Katherine ( I am making one for each of my girls) and a good chunk of the scenic picture album done. I am completely rejuvenated and motivated to scrap now, which is good because I had kind of lost my groove there for a while.
The news on the homefront was that Julia missed me so much she actually cried for me a few times which was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Ryun managed to get a lot done including washing the floor, changing the sheets on all of the beds, vacuuming upstairs and helping the kids clean their rooms. This was way more than I ever expected (and in all honesty I figured he would be sitting around all weekend except for washing the floor which he always does before hosting Monday Night Poker) but, I am certainly not complaining.
Emily and Katherine went with my sister and brother in law and cousins to see, "The Bee Movie" yesterday. They had fun and loved the movie. They too, were very happy to see me when they got home.

Weekend
On a spur of the moment type plan, Ryun and I ended up with one kid this weekend. Heather took the older two Friday night, and will be bringing them up to Suzanne's Saturday, to spend the night there. Julia probably would have gone too, but, transportation home would have been a problem with Suzanne's car, which only seats 5. So instead, Julia's had a nice quiet weekend with Mom and Dad.
She has slept late both mornings...8:15 I think it was which was especially nice for Ryun and I. Emily and Katherine are almost always up by 7, sometimes earlier, and never later than 7:30, so we got a little extra sleep. For me, the timing was perfect, as I was up until almost 2am on Thursday night, and late again last night watching the game. Tonight is bound to be another late one, as the final game of the ALCS is on tonight. GO SOX!
We took Julia out to lunch and to do a little shopping yesterday. She was so well behaved, it was almost frightening. I mean, she is three you know! I think she really enjoyed her time with just Mom and Dad. Dividing your attention between three kids (and one in particular who seems to dominate the need for attention) can be a tough thing so, for her the undivided attention for two whole days was nice.
Today, I am heading over to my parents with Julia to pick up Emily and Katherine. Suzanne was heading down there for dinner anyway, so the sleepover plan worked well.

Emily...
...is at her first ever sleepover at a friends house. The friends happens to be Ryun's Uncle's wife's sister's kid (two points if you understood that...ha ha ha) so I feel a little less nervous about it then I would normally. It's just weird, not having your kid here and not feeling "safe" knowing that they are at your sister's or parents house. I figure though, if the "Oh my God, what if the world ends and my baby is not with me" mommy cans survive the first one, than the rest of the sleepovers should be easy.
We've had a nice weekend. We spent Saturday morning helping my sister move. It went smoothly, thanks in part to my super strong husband and father who pretty much were the "movers." We left early afternoon and went to a cookout/pumpkin picking party at Ryun's uncle's house. Somehow, we managed to come home with eight pumpkins with only three kids picking them. Hey, I don't know...you do the math. After that, we brought the kids back to my sister's who kept them overnight so Ryun and I could go out to dinner in honor of my birthday. We ended up heading home to shower and clean up, then walked around Plymouth a little while (including a little detour up Burial Hill, in which I was too afraid to disturb the spirits so I stayed at the bottom while Ryun expored) and then finally to the East Bay Grill, where we took advantage of the nice weather and ate outside on the patio.
Tomorrow, after picking Emily up, we will be heading to the Cranberry Festival at Edaville. We try to go every year. It makes for a great family day together, which, with life's busy schedule, seem to be too far and few between.
