...I was going to sort through winter clothes today; washing what will still fit the girls and bagging up for donation the rest. Then, I thought, "Hmmm, Emily would love to help me with this massive undertaking (three kids=a lot of clothes). Maybe we can work on it when she gets home from school. Wouldn't it be a great mother-daughter bonding experience?" Yes, clearly I am looking for any excuse to get out of doing it right now, though I do think Emily would really enjoy helping (imagine that...a tween actually enjoying helping her mother with a chore). The boxes have been down from the attic for weeks now, just waiting to be sorted through and Emily has asked a number of times when I would be going through them.
Speaking of Emily, tonight is parent teacher conferences. Of course I am going to go but basically? Every parent teacher conference I have ever had for Emily has gone like this: "She is so bright, she is doing well, and she participates in class but she really needs to get organized. She doesn't always have what she needs and sometimes can't find things." I doubt these will be any different. So tonight, even though I have all of three minutes to chat with each teacher, I am going to see if they have any suggestions for her and I to take in to consideration. It might require a separate meeting to discuss at length, which is fine. I just don't have any more ideas.

Lazy
I had planned on a trip to the library today so the kids could get a couple of needed books for school related projects but thanks to the modern day wonder of the internet, we instead browsed and reserved them online. Ryun will be picking the books up on his way home. I know, it was slightly on the lazy side but you know what? It's school vacation. I can be lazy. Also, we have plans tomorrow to head south to the canal for a picnic lunch and bike riding, and perhaps a trip to the playground the next day. So I am not being that lazy really. And why am I trying to justify this anyway? Sheesh.
Other than that, I will be doing laundry today. We took the spring/summer clothes out this weekend so I am washing those. I hate that they get put away clean but need to be washed again upon being taken back out of storage to get rid of that "I have been in storage all winter smell." I hate laundry as it is, and it's just annoying to have to wash the same clothes twice.
If the kids actually finish cleaning they will be going outside today. This week is going to be perfect vacation weather. YAY!

Why I Love Today
I love it because...
...it's 70ish degrees and sunny out.
...Ryun's out in his garage...cleaning and fixing the car...with the bay door wide open.
...I am packing away the winter clothes and unpacking the summer clothes.
...the girls are happily playing in the yard.
...we will all be taking part in the yard "cleanup" this weekend.
...the spring and summer toys will again be scattered about the yard and the sandbox will be overflowing with sand.
There is nothing like the feeling that comes with saying, and in many ways, goodbye to winter and hello to spring. I couldn't even try to put it in to words. I have often thought that I would like to live somewhere that it is "spring-like" all of the time. I doubt though, that I would ever appreciate spring as much as I do here in good old New England.

In your opinion, how old do kids have to be...
...to unload/reload the dishwasher?
...transfer and bring laundry up and down a flight of stairs?
...fold and put laundry away?
...empty and take the trash out?

Too Early
To be awake that is. I woke up while Ryun was getting ready to leave for work (5am) and my mind went in to racing mode, so I decided rather than lie in bed, not being able to sleep, I may as well get up and be productive. I managed to have just enough time to run out and get a coffee (note to self: buy cream when you go out today) before Ryun left for the day.
Anyway, I have plans to go out to the store today (Michael's perhaps) to buy gimp for Emily. Yesterday, during a "moment" of "my hormones are in that oh so fun preteen/puberty out of control stage", she said, "I wish I had gimp. Working with my hands helps calm me down." To which I responded, "Really? Maybe I will run out and get some tomorrow (no sarcasm there people, because at this point? I might do just about anything)." Katherine, not one to let this "Mommy said she'd buy Emily something because it helps her calm down, so let's work this to my angle and tell her what helps me calm down" moment pass her by, chimed in with, "Books really help me calm down." So, could they be pulling a fast one? Perhaps. I don't think so though because, there was a real honesty behind what Emily said and, with the frame of mind she was in? I don't think she could have had the reasoning skills in place to concoct a plan to get me to buy it for her (although, with Emily, I wouldn't be surprised by anything). Gimp is at least doable. It's not like she said, "I really wish I had a brand new Nintendo DS. That really helps me calm down." Because that? It isn't just a "run out to the store and grab one for her" kind of thing. As for Katherine, I think I can manage a book while I'm at it, even if it's just because of her own cleverness in taking advantage of the moment at hand. I also need to run to the grocery store for the aforementioned cream, as well as a few lunch type things for tomorrow (yay for finally making a plan to scrap with friends that so far actually seems like it's going to work out).
Other things need to get done too. I would like to read another chapter or two of my new book(Shooting and Selling Your Photos by Jim Zuckerman). I also need to watch chapter two of the Oprah and Eckhart class because tonight is chapter three and I am hoping to watch that live this time around. In an attempt to at least try and keep up with the laundry, I am going to do some of that too. It feels indescribably nice to have only one load waiting to be put in, and to have all the clean clothes folded and put away. I have serious doubts about the prospect of it staying that way for any period of time, but, we'll see. Of course there will be blog reading and perhaps blog updating as well. Oh, I also need to call the hand surgeon dude. The wrist has been ok (except for a random flare up on Friday night, it's been just a mild, annoying kind of pain) but, I figure if it was bad enough at one point to render my hand useless, it should probably be a priority.

Not having the use of my right hand...
...really put a damper on laundry and housework. So, my newly re-arranged office is currently covered in clean clothing, just begging to be folded and put away. Fun. At least I have the couch I can sit on, a nice hot cup of tea to drink and a tv to watch while I do it.

Don't you just love it when...
...you have a list of things you want, need or have to do and you do everything but?
Yeah, that would be me today.
I really need to write the PTA Fundraising Newsletter by Wednesday, but preferably by tomorrow so that I can copy it while Julia is at school and have it ready to go for Wednesday night. I also need to make a trip to the post office during that time to ship off some things I sold on Ebay (which I would typically do right from home but the size of the items will prevent that from happening).
Other things to be done include the usual laundry (which actually is pretty well caught up considering its usual state), dishes, and figuring out what to cook for dinner on one of those nights in which everyone is going in the opposite direction.
I also finished a book that will inspire an entry over at Confessions of a Stay At Home Mom sometime in the near future.
And, I am sure there is more (because there always is) but that ought to do for now.

Like The Top Of The Chrysler Building
My house is officially clean. Like majorly, seriously, totally clean. I have spent the past couple of days going "house" cleaning the house. From top to bottom, side to side and back to front, this place looks pretty damn good if you ask me (well, except for the entry way which I need to vacuum but alas, everyone is asleep). It feels remarkably good to have accomplished this, but even more exciting? I am caught up on laundry. Yeah, I know, right?
It's nice to have an reason to do this every once in a while, because God knows the liklihood of such intense cleaning getting done without one is not good. This time my excuse was company coming in the form of Wayne and his kids, and, even though he would probably be telling me to not worry about it and not to clean for him, I would just like to publicly say, "Thanks Wayne, for giving me an excuse." Because darn, it's nice to feel all clean and organized. Oh, and I am looking forward to seeing you...ha ha ha!
And, for the next five minutes before bed I am going to enjoy the view because I am quite sure that once dawn breaks and the kids awaken from their slumber, the picture will be completely different.

If it weren't for the last minute...
...nothing would ever get done.
And, more specifically in my case, if I didn't wait til the last damn minute to sort the Entertainment books for the MECC, I might have realized sooner that I didn't get a box of envelopes, thereby preventing me from sorting any further and potentially preventing me from having them ready in time for the sale to begin on Thursday.
And, further, if I had half a brain in my head, I might have realized before saying I would take on the monumental task, that I do enough and am too damn busy as it is without adding something else to the mix.
And, if I sign up to do this again next year, you may as well consider me to be insane because two years in a row? I don't think insane is a strong enough word actually.
And, I know you aren't supposed to start a sentence with "and" but I am anyway. So there.
In other news, I sorted and folded all kinds of laundry today which makes me feel all accomplished and what not.
I also made a super-easy dinner that EVERYONE in the family loved. Now that's an accomplishment!
(Yes, I am aware of how disjointed this entry sounds...I am just not in the mood to fix it).

Ahh...
...I can feel the pangs of "blog withdrawal" subsiding as I type this.
We're back (obviously). I have a lot to do ( more laundry than I'd care to mention, food shopping and picture developing) but I will be back, perhaps later tonight!

Laundry Woes
I am so sick of actually staying caught up with laundry, folding and putting the clothes in drawers, only to have the kids completely destroy the nice little folded piles I have set up. So I came up with this fanatstic idea:
I put complete outfits together...including socks and underwear in 1 gallon size zip lock bags, and put those in their drawers instead. My thinking is that the bags are see-through and they won't have to tear apart their drawers looking for the shirt that matches those pants etc.
I mean if I am actually going to stay on track when it comes to laundry, I'd at least like it to stay organized.
Am I freakin' brilliant or what?
