I am ABSOLUTELY an organ donor. It is so important...there are so many people suffering with various aliments just waiting for transplants. I would personally consider it a sin to not be an organ donor...not to sound awful, but once you die your organs are either going to rot or be reduced to ashes, when they could have saved actual lives. What a waste. Quick story..,sorry this is so long. I actually read this in Sports Illustrated of all places. A 12 year old girl had been struggling with depression, and she ended up killing herself. Her parents donated all of her organs. A 50-something year old man received her heart. This man had been an avid runner before his illness had weakened him. He was close to death when he received her heart. As is sometimes the case, her parents and the man met and developed a relationship. Once the man had recovered from the surgery, he began training for a marathon. He eventually ran and completed the marathon, alongside the girl's father. At the finish line, her mother was waiting for them, and she put her hand over the man's heart and she thanked him. The man was overcome with emotion...here was this girl's mother, who ahd given him a second chance at life, thanking him. She told him that knowing that her daughter's heart had just run this marathon with her father had given her such peace. I never thought that Sports Illustrated could make me cry until I read that story. Jen
No I am not. If I have a 1% chance of surviving some horrible accident, I don't want a doctor deciding to take that chance away from me because someone else could have a higher chance of survival from the use of my organs.
I just have to add something to these comments, because I really do feel that this is so important. Around 20 people die every day waiting for organs. Someone's son, daughter, mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, best friend, husband, wife, etc. Think about not only if you were in a situation of needing an organ donation, but if someone in your family needed one as well. If you are NOT an organ donor, can you honestly in good conscience expect that should you or someone in your family need an organ, you or they should receive it? And, the idea that medical personnel are not going to save your life because you are an organ donor is false. Go to this webiste for the facts on organ dontation: www.donatelife.net
Here is an excerpt from it: Fact: If you are sick or injured and admitted to the hospital, the number one priority is to save your life. Organ, eye and tissue donation can only be considered after you are deceased. Jen

yeah but all my organs are worn out but one and it ain't long enough for anyone to want...
Yes I am. If just one person can have a better life thanks to a lump of flesh that I'm not in need of anymore then its worth it.
