Is it wrong...

...that I am looking forward to getting the bills from Julia's medical visits this week so I can send them to Ryun's boss with a letter saying that this is what he has caused?  I plan on doing the same thing with the out of pocket costs we incurred for Katherine prescriptions due to her strep throat and ear infection diagnosis yesterday, as well as for her doctor's visit and physicals for her and Emily that I will be scheduling next week so they can go to Girl Scout camp.  I am not expecting that he will pay the bills but there is something about sending the bills to him that just seems like it will feel good.

We have applied for health insurance through both unemployment and MASS Health.  We got a letter from unemployment saying that they received the application, were processing it and that if approved the coverage would be backdated to the date we applied.  We have not heard from MASS Health yet.   In the meantime, I am going to get some pleasure sticking it to Ryun's boss...even if it more than likely won't any difference to him.

Without knowing the details of Ryun's termination(layoff, RIF, other), I can't think of many situations where any good will come of rolling in the mud with a former employer .... as tempting as it is.

If it makes you feel a little better - than you should do it! Hang in there - I'm sure in time the insurance situation will get better!

Well then in that case, let me fill you in! : ) He wasn't paying Ryun regularly (still owes him about $2500), hasn't been reporting pension hours, and hasn't not paid a dime of health and welfare since December of 2009. Ryun wasn't actually laid off, but forced to leave by the union because Dick (that's his name I am not being fresh here!) had not paid wages in full or his portion of the health insurance. So even while Ryun was still employed by him we didn't have health insurance (like I said he hasn't paid it since December of 09 and Ry wasn't laid off until mid-March). All that aside, he was never upfront with his employees about what was going on. For example we found out we didn't have health insurance when we received a letter in the mail from BCBS saying our coverage had lapsed due to lack of employer payment. There were also many occasions where the boss could not make payroll and rather than telling his employees, they found out when there was no direct deposit. While I recognize that conversations about failing to pay health insurance and wages to your employees may be difficult, perhaps we would be a bit more understanding given the economy etc. if he had been forthcoming. And, as if all that wasn't enough, Ryun basically gave the guy the shirt off his back and he treated Ryun (and the other employees) like crap. So yeah, maybe we should wait until he pays Ryun the money he is owed but other than that? I have no reservations about sending him the medical bills he forced us to incur. Again, had he been upfront and honest from the get go, maybe I would have a different attitude.

Why isn't Ryun's union rep advocating more strongly for a resolution and back pay and benefits owed?

As for MassHealth, try calling 1-888-665-9993. If you get an automated menu keep pushing 'other' or 'zero' until you get a live person. Once a representative realizes that you will continue to pursue the issue to finality, they tend to work harder on your behalf.

His union is advocating but the boss has no money. It's a combination of things including his own poor money management skills and people owing him money. He is trying to sell the company as well, but can't do that until all health care benefits are paid and current and the money owed to Ryun and the others is paid. Thanks for the heads up regarding MassHealth. I'll definitely be on the phone w/ them.

I'll bet there are some lawyers would would give this guy a going over pro-bono.

You are probably right Mark...and believe me if things aren't fully resolved soon, that might be the next step.

You could probably tell Adam that the guy is a former Middleboro Selectman and he'd probably pay you to take the case :)

You might be on to something there, Mark! : )

The guy should have to pay. Besides the fact that he has been behind on paying Ryun he has been in essence stealing from him too. If Ry is paying insurance due's and his boss is not sending those due's to the insurance company that's stealing as far as I'm concerned.
